     synonyms (16 nomina) | cladomics

Global Distribution of the Hyriidae. The green wedge of the pie depicts the relative Recent species diversity of the family in the order Unionoida (93 of 1020).

The Hyriidae (93 Recent spp., 15 gen.) has a widely disjuct distribution in Australasia and South America. Historically, the subfamilial classification has followed this geographical partitioning. Our own phylogenetic work, however, has noticed the paraphyly of the Australasian lineages, and we have revised the classification of the Hyriidae accordingly.

subfamily HYRIINAE Swainson, 1840: 76 Recent species.
